August 2004 brought together two Tulsa Clubs, The Green Country and the
Central Rotary Club. Presidents Judy Houskeeper and Danny Amrine met to
discuss the possible merging of these two clubs. The idea took hold, and
members of both clubs agreed the merger would benefit not only the clubs,
but by joining forces, Rotary and the community would all gain from the
move. THE TULSA MIDTOWN ROTARY CLUB was officially recognized as a Rotary Club by Rotary International January 7, 2005 through the mergers of Tulsa Green Country and Tulsa Central Rotary Clubs. Midtown members immediately took on a large project when the Tsunami hit Thailand and surrounding countries in December, 2004. members and with the help of our rotary Community, made a donation in excess $50, 000, to the Water Projects promoted by The Rotary Club of Bangkok South in Bangkok, Thailand. In support of District 6110's literacy program, Midtown Rotary Club presented in excess of 1500 dictionaries to area third grade students at local schools. Literacy, so vital to developing nations, was assisted by donations involving matching funds from District 6110 to the Guatemala Literacy Project. Spanish text books and computer systems are financed through the literacy program for the education of the Mayan Indians. This year three members were awarded the Guatemala Literacy Fellowship medal for their generous contribution to Literacy in Guatemala. Two scholarships were awarded through the endeavors of Tulsa Midtown Rotary Club and the Temple Foundation. Daysprings Villa continued as a worthy recipient of Midtown’s community involvement. Clothing and toys were distributed for use by the guests of Daysprings Villa. In conjunction with The Rotary Club of North Tulsa and The Tulsa Midtown Rotary Club tackled the task of hosting and promoting a Productivity Enhancement Program (PEP) for 13 Russian delegates. The delegates were deputy directors and directors of marketing departments within private companies in Russia. While here, the delegates were hosted by various companies in the Tulsa area to learn marketing concepts and strategies. Many of our members helped with the District Medical Supplies Network by performing various tasks related to the inventorying and packaging of medical supplies. Two of our club members were awarded the Medical Supplies Ambassadorial medal for their participation and generosity of the Medical Supply Network. Tulsa Midtown Rotary Club is a vibrant and growing Club. Communities, both local and distant stand to benefit as a result of the January merger. Growth has already started by adding four new members since January 2005 and we now have 36 members in our club. Ten new Paul Harris Fellows is an indication that Rotary is becoming more meaningful to many of our members. During this short period of time, we had an additional four members move up a level. |
